Pioneer: This past weekend, Madison Bishop Robert Morlino of Madison, Wisconsin made the announcement that he will be offering all of his Masses at the Cathedral ad orientem. Bishop Morlino is a strong supporter of the Traditional Latin Mass.

Catholic Bishop Removed: On September 1st Pope Francis removed Bishop Mario Oliveri of Albenga-Imperia, Italy, replacing him with the ultra-liberal bishop Guglielmo Borghetti. Bishop Oliveri was considered one of the most Catholic bishops in Italy. Corrispondenza Romana argues that Oliveri was removed for Catholic stances, for receiving traditional seminarians from other dioceses, and for his faithfulness to Pope Benedict XVI who allowed the celebration of Mass in the Old Rite.

Living in the Past: Jesuit Georgetown University has announced next steps in the university’s ongoing process to acknowledge its historical ties to slavery. This history includes the 1838 sale of 272 slaves who worked on Jesuit plantations in Maryland. Proceeds of the sale were used to pay off debts at Georgetown. The Cardinal Newman Society comments: “It took Georgetown almost 200 years to apologize for its pro-slavery past. How long will we have to wait for it to apologize for its pro-abortion present?”

Praise: The Dalai Lama has expressed joy at the canonization of Mother Teresa in a letter to the Mother Superior of the Missionaries of Charity. The Dalai Lama wrote, “Meeting Mother Teresa, it was clear she was an exemplary person. She revealed the true practice of love in her charitable activities. Although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit lives on in the work her sisters do.”
