Coptic Pope celebrates divine liturgy in Saint John Lateran.
Tony Smith
You think a Trad Catholic priest would be allowed to offer the Latin Mass there any time soon?
Kenjiro M. Yoshimori
A lot better than having St. John's defiled by the "anglican protestants" like it was a few weeks ago.
John Fritz Logan
@Kenjiro M. Yoshimori Oh I agree that it's less bad. I prefer the Oriental orthodox over the Eastern orthodox cause:
1. They did not embrace Caesaropapism.
2. They did not collaborate with Communism and accept churches stolen from Eastern Catholics.
3. They have not slandered anti-Nazi and anti-Communist martyrs like Cardinal Stepinac by citing Communist showtrials.
4. They tend endure martyrdom …More

5. They don't allow for divorce and remarriage (adultery) for a wide variety of reasons like the Eastern orthodox.

If schismatics and heretics celebrate in the cathedral of the bishop of Rome and Catholics faithful to the Romn Mass are called schismatics and unable to celebrate there then one question arises: Where is the Catholic Church and where is not?
Jeffrey Ade
Isn't that sort of like two questions?

Not to throw shade on the previous post, but since the Copts are Monophysite (or non-Chalcedonian - the term they prefer) some still regard them as heretical. However, the Roman Catholic Church in modern times calls them "Oriental Orthodox" This distinguishes them from the other Eastern Orthodox churches which hold to all the 7 ecumenical councils.

It's rather unacceptable, but it's not as objectionable as having those protestant Anglicans do their service there afew weeks ago. That was a heresy and apostacy to allow for it. At least the Coptic Orthodox are true Christians, with true Sacraments dating back 1,600 years.
It wasn't right to allow them, but it definitly was a sin before God to allow the protestant Anglicans in.
