Traditionalist SSPX calls Vatican offer ‘clearly unacceptable’
A breakaway traditionalist Catholic group on Monday (June 25) slammed as “clearly unacceptable” a Vatican doctrinal document that was supposed to lay the foundation for the group’s reconciliation with Rome.
The move comes after three years of complex negotiations between the Vatican and the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), and was revealed just as Pope Benedict XVI appointed a high-profile American archbishop to a key post to oversee relations with traditionalists.
A letter by the Rev. Christian Thouvenot, secretary general of the SSPX, to SSPX bishops and regional leaders was leaked on the Internet on Tuesday (June 26). Thouvenot later confirmed its authenticity.
The letter says that the SSPX superior general, Bishop Bernard Fellay, told the head of the Vatican doctrinal office, American Cardinal William J. Levada, that “he couldn’t sign” the Vatican’s doctrinal offer during a meeting on June 13.

The reaction of SSPX has little to NOTHING to do with pride or
lack of charity. Those individual clerics 'inside' the Church, who
vehemently despise the work of the Holy Spirit thru Archbishop Marcel

The institutional church is apparently being purged/scourged, as was Jesus. Be the witness to Christ's triumph over sin and death.
Many who claim to be Catholic have emptied the institutional
church of the Catholic faith, in her teachings and practices.
Double your prayer and fasting for the Holy Church founded by
Christ Jesus on the Rock of Peter. Unite yourself in prayer for
Benoit XVI.
Take this time to offer some penance for Christ's Church and those faithful leaders.
Better still become a faith filled witness, to Christ crucified, in your daily life. Others are watching ... waiting to be inspired by modern saints... and that might just be you.

This is so sad...not only on the part of the Cardinals changing what appears to be a end run around the Holy Father, but also to SSPX for not coming home with charity and humility. To SSPX, the Church needs you, get rid of your pride and come home! So sad if this is true.

This is so sad...not only on the part of the Cardinals changing what appears to be a end run around the Holy Father, but also to SSPX for not coming home with charity and humility. To SSPX, the Church needs you, get rid of your pride and come home! So sad if this is true.
I used to side with SSPX but found some of their positions too entrenching and prideful. Hopefully in all charity they will come home and help those of us who are suffering through so many abuses, reform the reform.

If the Pope wants to regularize the SSPX, and has agreed to Bishop Fellay's version of the Preamble, then by what right does Cardinal Levada and his advisors have to usurp the Holy Father's will? In addition, by what right do they have in amending the Preamble to include elements that would probably, require the SSPX to cease any criticism of the application of VII (not the documents in and of itself)?
