The exhibition was derisively called "Gratia plena" by the diocese. The paintings were originally scheduled to remain on display until 2 June. Catholics have been organising protests and rosary vigils for weeks.
On 28 March, an anonymous man allegedly damaged one of the paintings with spray paint and a knife and injured the painter in an alleged scuffle. The painter claimed to have been "stabbed" but only had a scratch on his chin. There is no picture of the damage to the painting or the alleged wounds on the painter. The 2-metre phantom assailant vanished into thin air and has not been identified.
Now the decadent Bishop Castellucci and the artist are playing the victim and moan about a "hate attack" in order to get out of their untenable situation. Castelluci has never stopped defending the blasphemous display and its producer.
