Despite suffering through the past 8 years of a president who hated America and its exceptionalism in the world, we survived and these nuns understand. True, not everyone shows respect for America or the National Anthem. Indeed, for some it's just the opposite.

Why?
It is obviously not rooted in sincere religious belief but rather it is rooted in hatred of police, white people, and the USA in general. No one denies the serious blemishes that the United States has but overall it is the greatest country offering more opportunity to more people in the history of this planet. This is why anyone from anywhere can move to America and become American. This is among the reasons so many people want to become American — and do.

For non-Americans the reason for their contempt is, in my opinion, rooted in jealousy of America's prosperity, economic opportunity and its exceptionalism. The United States remains the most coveted destination for would-be immigrants and foreign students. That's why so many foreigners are leaving their own countries, their families and a few even dying in order to come to America and not go somewhere else such as Switzerland or Moldova.
In addition, our homes are heated in the winter.
