This Is How the Bishop will Distribute the Palm Branches

Ascoli Bishop Giovanni D’Ercole, Italy, blessed on March 4 olive branches for Palm Sunday in front of the cathedral in presence of Ascoli Mayor Marco Fioravanti.

The branches are distributed for free in crowded supermarkets which, unlike the empty churches, remain open.

"We don't need to swarm into the supermarkets” – the mayor warned – “because more palms will be blessed after the bishop's 6 p.m. Palm Sunday celebration, and will be available from Monday onwards."

In Italy, Palm Sunday is the most important feastday of the year, and the olive branches are the most important de-facto-sacrament.
