"Infernal Noise" Poured Out of Vatican Property in London

A Vatican luxury flat in Hans Place, Chelsea, one of Central London’s most expensive addresses, has become the subject of complaints from local residents, FT.com (July 17) reported.

Neighbours complained to the local council and even to the London Nuncio about “hellish noise” from late night gatherings, some involving DJs.

The purchase of the flat and several other luxury London properties in 2014 was decided by Francis and overseen by his right-hand man, Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Becciu. The properties were paid by money from Peter's Pence and are held through Jersey shell companies.

The currently unoccupied 9,000 square feet triplex apartment features a large garden and indoor swimming pool installed as part of a multimillion-pound refurbishment. It is advertised for rent for £30,000 a week.

The company managing the Vatican property has not been accused of any wrongdoing and said that it does “not anticipate any recurrence of any issues.”
