With great profit and pleasure I’m currently reading Alec Ryrie’s new book Protestants: The Faith that Made the Modern World. Among the many texts appearing in this year of the five hundredth anniversary of the Reformation, Ryrie’s stands out for its verve, clarity, and historical sweep. In some ways, it is an answer to Brad Gregory’s The Unintended Reformation, though it lacks the intellectual depth and thoroughness of Gregory’s magisterial study.
What has so far intrigued me most of all in Ryrie’s book is his portrait of the undisputed father of the Reformation, Martin Luther. I will confess to a certain fascination with Luther. Dr Stuart Reiss: and robert barron is too! He denies souls go to Hell (saying 99% are saved) and follows the heresies of von Balthazar. Luther and his ideas have been condemned by popes and encyclicals. You are right: There is NO more to discuss.

This auxiliary bishop should follow his own conclusions and take himself to Protestantism and leave the Catholic faithful alone. I can't believe Archbishop Gomez says nothing about this. This man started with his reasonable hope that everybody makes it to heaven and now he calls the heresy that tore the Catholic Church five hundred years ago a "love affair". Bad shepherds should read Jeremiah 23:2, repent and come back to the true faith, or just leave us alone and face the consequences of their actions.
