Paul VI Wanted Allegedly To Resign

Pope Paul VI (1963-1978) kept a letter of resignation in his drawer according to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, 83. Re told Bergamonews that John Paul II showed him the letter.

According to Re, Paul VI wrote a second letter to his Secretary of State aimed at convincing the cardinals to accept the resignation in keeping with Church law in vigour at the time. It is unclear, what the purpose of these letters was.
