Prison Mercy For Monsignor Capella

Monsignor Carlo Alberto Capella has been transferred into a Vatican prison on April 7 according to Italian media. Capella is a former collaborator of the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington.

He was called back to Rome in September 2017 after he was accused of having possessed pornographic pictures of minors. He has since lived in a building in immediate proximity of the Vatican.

His arrest during Easter Week was ordered after the Vatican had received a formal complaint through U.S. diplomatic channels.

Capella risks a prison sentence from one to five years. Now that he is in jail, he qualifies at least as a candidate for Pope Francis’ Holy Thursday foot-washings.
