May 25, 2026 - The Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church
The Church was born at Pentecost… but Jesus did not leave her motherless. The day after Pentecost, Catholics celebrate the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. And the timing is powerful. Mary was there at Nazareth when the Word became flesh. Mary was there at Calvary when Jesus said, “Behold, your mother.” Mary was there in the Upper Room when the Holy Spirit descended in fire. This feast reminds us that Mary is not some distant figure from the past. She is the Mother Jesus gave to His disciples, the Mother who prays with the Church, suffers with the Church, and points every soul back to Christ. Here’s the part many people miss: this feast was placed right after Pentecost because the Church needs both fire and tenderness. The Holy Spirit sends the Church on mission, and Mary teaches the Church how to carry that mission with humility, courage, and love. If the Church feels confusing, wounded, or hard to trust sometimes, this feast is a reminder that Christ still gives His people a Mother. Not instead of Himself, but to lead us deeper into Him.
