Vatican Auditor Was Forced To Quit After Finding Irregularities

Libero Milone, 69, the Vatican's first auditor-general, was forced to resign in June because he found evidence of possible illegal activity, he told the media. He was not able to give details because of a non-disclosure agreement.

Archbishop Giovanni Becciu, the substitute (second man) in the Vatican's Secretariat of State, called Milone's claims false, “He was spying on the private lives of his superiors and staff, including me.” And, “If he had not agreed to resign, we would have prosecuted him.”

In the past Becciu has acted as Francis' axman. In February he replaced Cardinal Burke as the Patron of the Order of Malta.
