German Star Wars "Liturgy" Will Be Repeated - "Bookable Church Service"

Rev Gerd Neumeier of the Archdiocese of Bamberg has justified his “Star Wars” service held on April 18 talking to Katholisch.de on May 3. Neumeier emphasized that it was not a Eucharist, but a Liturgy of the Word.

The Church’s liturgy is “diverse”, he said: “When people hear the word ‘church service,’ most associate it with the same Mass over and over again, especially in connection with a priest.”

The event began with a lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and a Jedi knight. This was followed by the Kyrie, a first reading, Psalm 27, the Hallelujah, and the Gospel account of the temptations of Jesus.

According to Neumeier, Star Wars, with its themes of good and evil, light and darkness, is a perfect bridge to an encounter with God.

Neumeier announced that the format would be repeated: “Because the first one was received so well, we believe we are moving in a good and sustainable direction.”

The Star Wars service is part of the “bookable church services” project of the youth office of the Archdiocese of Bamberg. Parishes, pastoral areas, and institutions can request the format complete with costumes, technical equipment, and a priest.

That is absolutely true. So Father is going to concentrate on promotion of the Liturgy of the Hours and occasional invitations to other Catholic Rites. Nicht wahr ?
