Cardinal Müller About Viganò: Some of the Texts of German Bishops Are "Not the Ultimate Wisdom"

Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller defended again the Viganò Appeal against the suppression of civil rights.

Limburg Bishop Georg Bätzing, the President of the German Bishops' Conference, had previously been up in arms against the Appeal.

Müller explained to Die-Tagespost.de (12 May) that the German bishops should rather take care of the new evangelisation of their dioceses according to the wishes of Francis, or take a stand against the worldwide persecution of Christians, "instead of getting hot and bothered about a three-page paper, which is certainly not - like many texts produced by the German Bishops' Conference - the ultimate wisdom, but at least an appeal for reflection.

The cardinal criticised that these bishops refer to "outraged headlines" but didn't take the trouble to talk to him.

Even Müller's successor, the "conservative" Regensburg Bishop Rudolf Voderholzer, hastened to endorse the anti-Viganò outcry of the German bishops.
