Surprise? X-Ray Method Confirms Age of Shroud of Turin

Liberato De Caro, an Italian scientist, used an X-ray method to determine the age of the Shroud of Turin, Christ's burial cloth.

De Caro works at the Institute of Crystallography of the National Research Council in Bari, Italy. His team developed since 2019 the “Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering,” NcRegister.com (April 18) writes.

It analyses the natural aging of cellulose in linen cloths caused by ambient temperature and humidity. The scientist studied a series of samples from linen fabrics ranging in age from 3000 BC to 2000 AD.

The curves below show that the sample of the Shroud of Turin (orange curve) is somehow similar to the linen that is about 2000 years old (green).

@Wilma Lopez Beautiful imagery of a soul lost in prayer before Jesus Crucified. Thank you.

No, I'm not surprised in the least. What surprised and grieved me is that men who supposedly value science denied so much confounding evidence supporting the incredible authenticity of the Shroud, and the impossibility of it being made by any human means -- let alone during the Middle Ages when methods would have been much more crude and uncoupled from the startling accurate medical facts which the Shroud clearly depicts -- to the point of denying their own intelligence in attempts to debunk it.

We cannot imagine what a gift the Shroud is -- to see the magnificent, noble Face of our Beloved Christ, serene in death, and undefeated. Even from His grave He beckons us and uses everything possible to seduce us and convert us for love of Him.....even those scientists who still deny Him.

I think the heat from the fire that singed the shroud would cause crystallization (aging) of the fibers which would be misidentified by WAXS as meaning that the shroud was 2,000 years old.
