Are There Roman Masses in St Peter's Basilica?

Roman historian Baron Roberto de Mattei, 76, told IlRoma.net (22 October) that there are daily Holy Masses [as opposed to the Novus Ordo Eucharist] in St Peter's.

Literally, he said: "Remember that the traditional Mass is celebrated every day in St Peter's Basilica by more than one priest, with the authorisation of Francis".

De Mattei is very familiar with the Roman scene. It is therefore safe to assume that what he says is correct.

He also insists that Benedict XVI's Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum recognised and confirmed the full freedom to celebrate Holy Mass, "and to this day this Motu Proprio has not been abrogated and cannot be abrogated" because Holy Mass is "inviolable".

The historian believes that "a 'respectful resistance' is due in the face of provisions [against Holy Mass] that constitute an abuse".

Another 'vaticanists' who prefers to stay in 'denial' and faithful to Francis. (It's more convenient this way - for glory or money)

Paul DeRousse

He sounds like "controlled" opposition.

I have always been highly suspicious of him.

Traditiones did abrogate Summorum:
Art. 8. Previous norms, instructions, permissions, and customs that do not conform to the provisions of the present Motu Proprio are abrogated.

John A Cassani

I don’t know where this guy’s head is, but, the main articles of Summorum Pontificum, that every priest of the Latin Rite has the faculty to use the older missal, and that pastors (and the equivalent) have the authority to authorize public celebrations according to the older missal, have, definitely, been abrogated. Certainly, Traditionis custodes is widely disregarded, but it did significantly abrogate Summorum Pontificum. One could say that Quo primum has never been abrogated, and cannot be abrogated.

True Mass

Let's face it banning the Roman Mass is flat out evil. Period. It's nasty it's hateful, it's evil. And it's Bergoglio who is doing it. Nuff said.

P. O'B

And Paul VI banned the Roman Mass more thoroughly than even Francis has done, and he has been canonized. I can't figure it out.

Ivan Tomas

@P.O.B, Montini has been "kanonized" by Jorge the antipope, thus...

JANET ZIMMER

As I recall, he banished the Roman Mass to the least comfortable corner of the basement when he banned them in toto upstairs.
