I believe that bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ, such that the substances of bread and wine are no longer present. Aquinas’ explanation of it is the best there is, to my mind, though any human explanation is bound to fall short of completion when it’s subject is of Divine origin.
