207 Underpants: The Church of Vatican II Presents Its Saints

Iranian-born British artist Reza Aramesh, who has a penchant for very realistic artefacts and naked men, presents 207 men's underpants in the church of San Fantin in Venice.

The exhibition, in collaboration with the decadent Venice Patriarchate, is called 'Number 207' and runs from 16 April to 2 October.

The underpants are made from Carrara marble and arranged on the floor of San Fantin, a 12th-century church that houses a miraculous Byzantine Marian icon and has a crypt, rare in Venice.

San Fantin is one of more than 30 churches in the city that are not used for worship. The parish of San Fantin was already abolished by Napoleon, who made it an auxiliary church of the neighbouring parish.

In terms of prideful boasting, which is what the passage is referring to, I agree. But, when confronted by modernism in the Church it calls for courageous action.
