Pope Under Pressure: Peter Saunders, a member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, has personally invited Pope Francis to attend a meeting of his commission. According to Sounders, the Pope said yes. Saunders commented to thedailybeast.com, “I would be bitterly disappointed if the meeting were not organized when we gather in February.” Saunders explains, “As wonderful as everyone sees Francis to be, he has come out with some real howlers and we need to challenge him face-to-face.”

O’Malley Apologizes for Pope’s Words: Saunders condemns Pope Francis for having defended Bishop Juan Barros of Osorno, Chile, and calling Barros’ accusers quote – “leftists who organized all of this”. Barros is accused of having known of abuses performed by the famous Chilean priest Fernando Karadima. Quote Saunders, “What the pope said was dreadful.” According to thedailybeast.com, Boston Cardinal O’Malley telephoned Barros’ main accuser in order to apologize.

Pope Needs to Man Up: Saunders believes that his commission is answering directly to Pope Francis. He says about Francis. Quote, “We need to see the guy in order to give feedback.” And, “The pope needs to man up and come talk to us in real dialogue.”

Angelus Gone: RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster is to scrap the Angelus after 53 years and substitute it with videos that will reach out to people of all faiths and none. Traditionally, the Angelus bells were rung at 6 pm. The footage accompanying the bells were maudlin images of people staring aimlessly, and it was known in Ireland as “the Angelus where no one prays.”
