Roman Rite Communities Exempted from Traditionis Custodes
The reason: The use of ancient liturgical books was at the origin of their existence and was provided for in their constitutions.
On February 4, two members of the Fraternity, Father Benoît Paul-Joseph, Superior of the District of France, and Vincent Ribeton, Rector of the Seminary of St. Peter in Wigratzbad, were received by Francis for almost an hour.
According to the communiqué the meeting “went well, in a very cordial atmosphere.”
Francis made them believe that he was “very impressed” by the approach of the founders of the Fraternity and their desire “to remain faithful to the [unfaithful] Roman Pontiff.”
He said that this gesture should be "preserved, protected and encouraged".
Subsequently, Francis sent a February 11 decree confirming for the members of the Fraternity the right to use the liturgical books in force in 1962, namely: the Missal, the Ritual, the Pontifical and the Roman Breviary. In reality, every Catholic priest and bishop is allowed to use these books.
