The Church Needs A Procedure To Correct A Pope Who Teaches Error

Pope Francis’ Amoris Laetitia has led to an "extremely grave" situation, according to Father Aidan Nichols O.P., reports the Catholic Herald. Nichols explained talking to an ecumenical conference in Cuddesdon, England, that Pope Francis' interpretation of Amoris Laetitia seems to tolerate concubinage, contradicting the Church’s teaching.

Therefore Nichols suggests to change Canon Law in order to have "a procedure for calling to order a pope who teaches error". And, "[The Pope] may be the supreme appeal judge of Christendom…but that does not make him immune to perpetrating doctrinal howlers.”

Father Nichols believes the present crisis could be providential "to call attention to the limits of primacy".
