Im Jahr 2006 wurde die IDF im Libanon zerstört. Sie war unvorbereitet, unausgebildet, es fehlte ihr an elementarer Vorstellungskraft, Kreativität, den notwendigen Führungsqualitäten usw. Die israelische Armee wurde von der Hisbollah gedemütigt und rannte schließlich um ihr Leben. Nach dem Krieg wurde eine israelische Untersuchungskommission gebildet, um das Versagen der IDF zu untersuchen. Der Stabschef der IDF, Dan Halutz, trat zurück, bevor die Kommission ihre Ergebnisse veröffentlichte.
Der Krieg im Südlibanon war jedoch nur ein Teil der IDF-Kampagne von 2006. Der IDF-Stabschef, selbst ehemaliger Kommandeur der israelischen Luftwaffe, begann gleichzeitig mit einem verheerenden und rücksichtslosen, wahllosen Bombardement des Dahieh-Viertels von Beirut, in dem Zehntausende schiitischer Libanesen in der Hauptstadt leben. Die israelische Luftwaffe machte die Viertel in Beirut buchstäblich dem Erdboden gleich und tötete dabei Tausende von Zivilisten und zerstörte auch die Infrastruktur des Landes. Jahre später argumentierte Dan Halutz in gewisser Weise zu Recht, dass die Zeit bewiesen habe, dass seine Doktrin tatsächlich funktionierte, obwohl er von den israelischen Medien als totaler militärischer Versager dargestellt wurde. Die Hisbollah sei abgeschreckt worden und habe seit 2006 von Angriffen auf die zentralen städtischen Zentren Israels abgesehen. Die Hisbollah wurde laut Halutz von der libanesischen Öffentlichkeit praktisch in Schach gehalten.

Bislang hat Israel mehr als 20 Tausend Zivilisten getötet, die meisten von ihnen Kinder, Frauen und ältere Menschen. Es hat den halben Gazastreifen in Staub verwandelt. Die Bodenoperation der IDF ist offensichtlich ein militärischer Misserfolg. In 81 Tagen hat sie keines ihrer Ziele erreicht. Nicht einmal annähernd. Dennoch ist die Bodenoperation nur eine Nebelkerze. Israel weiß, dass es die Hamas nicht stürzen kann. Es kann zwar ihre Führer und einige hochrangige Kommandeure töten, aber diese werden sofort durch andere ersetzt, die radikaler und entschlossener sind.
Wenn ich richtig liege, sind die so genannten militärischen Ziele Israels (d.h. die Hamas militärisch und politisch auszulöschen) nur eine Fassade. Sie dienen dazu, von der offensichtlichsten Tatsache abzulenken: Israel zielt tatsächlich auf die Zivilbevölkerung des Gazastreifens.
Was Israel derzeit in Gaza tut, ist ein Versuch, die Bevölkerung von Gaza in die Knie zu zwingen, damit sie in Zukunft "hoffentlich" die Hamas in die Schranken weisen kann, so wie die libanesische Öffentlichkeit die Hisbollah in die Schranken gewiesen hat.
Wenn ich das richtig sehe, wurden die israelischen Soldaten, die bisher in Gaza gestorben sind, und die Tausenden von Schwerverletzten im Grunde genommen von ihrer Regierung geopfert, um die Aufmerksamkeit von der wahllosen Zerstörung der Zivilisation in Gaza abzulenken.
Aber das Leben ist nicht perfekt, wie man so schön sagt, vor allem nicht für Israel. Die Hisbollah hat zwar fast zwei Jahrzehnte lang keine israelischen Ballungszentren angegriffen, aber sie hat die militärischen und vor allem ballistischen Fähigkeiten aufgebaut, um israelische Städte und darüber hinaus platt zu machen. Israel weiß das und fürchtet sich vor der Aussicht auf eine Konfrontation mit der Hisbollah. In der Praxis ist es die Hisbollah, die Israel tatsächlich abschreckt.
Der Hamas-Führer im Süden, Yehya Sinwar, versteht Israel viel besser als Israel sich selbst versteht. Er kann die israelischen Pläne sehen. Er kann sehen, wie die Halutz-Doktrin gegen sein Volk eingesetzt wird. Er lässt sich Zeit und lehnt Waffenstillstandsvereinbarungen ab, die nicht mit den Zielen der Hamas übereinstimmen: die vollständige Beendigung des Krieges, der israelische Rückzug aus dem Gazastreifen und ein sofortiges Ende der Belagerung.
Sinwar beherrscht geschickt den kollektiven psychologischen Modus der Israelis. Er weiß, wie zerbrechlich die Israelis politisch, gesellschaftlich, politisch und wirtschaftlich sind. Er weiß, wie zerbrechlich die Regierung Netanjahu ist. Er scheint Israel, seinem Militär und seiner Regierung bei so gut wie jeder Entwicklung und jedem Schritt mindestens einen Schritt voraus zu sein.
Die israelische Strategie ist in der Tat brutal, aber sie ist konterwirksam. Das israelische Schreckensszenario eines regionalen Krieges ist inzwischen so gut wie unvermeidlich.

Die einzige Möglichkeit, dies zu verhindern, besteht darin, dass die israelische Führung zur Vernunft kommt und akzeptiert, dass es keine Möglichkeit gibt, in der Region mit dem Schwert zu überleben, aber ein solches israelisches Eingeständnis ist angesichts der Regierung Netanjahu und der übrigen politischen Klasse Israels unrealistisch. In der Tat deuten alle Anzeichen darauf hin, dass Israel alles tut, um diesen "letzten" Krieg gegen die gesamte Region zu beginnen.
Sie fragen, warum? Vielleicht weil Netanjahu weiß, dass es für ihn keinen "Tag danach" gibt. Es sieht für mich so aus, als ob Netanjahu entschlossen ist, als Samson 2.0 in die Geschichte einzugehen....

Israeli Gaza strategy for beginners
In 2006 the IDF was destroyed in Lebanon. It was caught unprepared, untrained, lacking elementary imagination, creativity, the necessary leadership qualities etc. The Israeli army was humiliated by the Hezbollah and eventually ran for its life. Once the war was over an Israeli commission of inquiry was formed to probe the IDF malfunctioning. The IDF chief of staff, Dan Halutz, resigned before the commission published its findings.
But the war in South Lebanon was only one part of the IDF’s 2006 campaign. The IDF chief of staff, himself a former commender of the Israeli airforce, launched a simultaneous devastating as well as reckless indiscriminate bombardment of the the Dahieh quarter of Beirut, the home for tens of thousands of Shia Lebanese in the capitol. The Israeli airforce literally flattened neighbourhoods in Beirut killing thousands of civilians and also destroying the country’s infrastructure. Years later, Dan Halutz, argued, to a certain extent correctly, that despite him portrayed by the Israeli media as a total military failure, time proved that his doctrine actually worked. The Hezbollah, according to him, has been deterred and refrained from attacking Israel’s central urban centers since 2006. The Hezbollah according the Halutz was practically restrained by the Lebanese public.
In 2023 Israel exercises once again the Halutz’ doctrine. It targets Palestinian civilians using the Airforce and artillery deploying indiscriminate killing. So far israel has killed more than 20 thousand civilians most of them children, women, elders. It turned half of Gaza into dust. The IDF ground operation is obviously a military failure, 81 days in it didn’t achieve any of its objectives. Not even close. Yet the ground operation is merely a smoke screen. Israel knows that it can’t topple the Hamas. It may kill its leaders and a few high rank commanders but those will be replaced immediately by others who are more radical and determined.
If I am correct here, the Israeli so called military objectives (ie eradicating Hamas militarily and politically) are just a facade. They are there to divert the attention from the most obvious fact: Israel actually targets Gaza civilians.
What Israel is doing in Gaza right now is an attempt to bring the Gaza people on their knees so in the future it will ‘hopefully be them’ who restrain Hamas in the fashion Lebanese public has been restraining the Hezbollah.
If I am correct here, the Israeli soldiers who died in Gaza so far and the thousands who are severely wounded basically were sacrificed by their government in an attempt to divert the attention from the indiscriminate destruction of the Gaza civilisation.
But life isn’t perfect as they say, especially for Israel. The Hezbollah indeed, didn’t attack Israel’s metropolitan centres for almost 2 decades but it has built the military and especially ballistic ability to flatten Israel cities and beyond. Israel knows it and is terrified of the prospect of a confrontation with the Hezbollah. In practice, it is the Hezbollah that actually deters Israel.
In the south, Hamas leader Yehya Sinwar, understands Israel way better than Israel understands itself. He can see the Israeli plans. He can see the Halutz’ doctrine being deployed against his people. He takes his time, he rejects ceasefire deals that do not fit with Hamas’ objectives: the complete stop of the war, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and an immediate end of the siege.
Sinwar skilfully controls the Israeli collective psychological mode. He knows how fragile the Israelis are politically, socially, politically and economically . He knows how fragile Netanyahu’s government is. He seems to be at least one step ahead of Israel, its military and government on, pretty much, every development and move.
Israeli strategy is indeed brutal, but it is counter effective. The Israeli nightmare scenario of a regional war is pretty much inevitable by now.

The only way to prevent it, is by Israel leadership coming to its senses accepting that there is no way to survive in the region living on the sword, but such an Israeli acknowledgment is unrealistic considering Netanyahu’s government and the rest of Israel political class. In fact all signs suggest that Israel is doing whatever it can to start that ‘final’ war against the entire region.
You ask why? Maybe because Netanyahu knows that there is no ‘day after’ for him. It looks to me as if Netanyahu is determined to go down in history as Samson 2.0….
