Pope Francis Lived Seven Years in Disgrace

According to Ignazio Ingrao writing for the Italian magazine Panorama, Pope Francis was banished by his Jesuit order for seven years to Cordoba located more than 700 km north of Buenos Aires During that time, Bergoglio was prohibited from visiting other Jesuit communities. There is even a letter by the then general of the Jesuits, Peter Hans Kolvenbach, that forbids other communities and houses of the Jesuits to receive Bergoglio.
Before that, Bergoglio had become provincial of the Jesuits in Argentina when he was only 37 years old. He was then named rector of the Philosophical and Theological Faculty San Miguel in San Miguel. At this time he fell in disgrace with Pedro Arrupe, the General of the Jesuits, whom he had formerly supported. The reason for the conflict was Bergoglio’s rejection of Liberation Theology.
