The embattled Strasbourg Archbishop Luc Ravel, 65, has submitted his resignation to Francis and to the French President, in accordance with a concordat.
In an April 20 statement on Alsace.catholique.fr, Ravel did not give a reason for this step saying that he had presented the resignation to Francis, "for whom I pray every day" (because there is a prayer for him in the Eucharist).
Ravel stressed that he had “always acted as close as possible to the law and to my conscience.” Neither is what Francis wants his bishops to do.
“For the rest, the pontifical secret, which we must respect, is the responsibility of the apostolic nuncio,” Ravel added, "I believe that I have acted to resolve the problems in a spirit of transparency and respect for confidentiality.”

Perhaps this is a good thing, if he is a Pope Francis liberal.
