3. THOMAS PAYNE - Der führende atheistische Schriftsteller in den amerikanischen Kolonien: "Bleib bei mir, um Gottes willen; ich kann es nicht ertragen, allein gelassen zu werden, oh Herr, hilf mir! Oh Gott, was habe ich getan, um so viel zu leiden? Was wird aus mir nachher werden? Ich würde Welten geben, wenn ich sie hätte, dass das Zeitalter der Vernunft nie veröffentlicht worden wäre. 0 Herr, hilf mir! Christus, hilf mir! Nein, geh nicht weg, bleib bei mir! Schick mir sogar ein Kind, das bei mir bleibt; denn ich bin hier allein am Rande der Hölle. Wenn der Teufel je einen Agenten hatte, so bin ich es gewesen."
4. SIR THOMAS SCOTT - Kanzler von England: "Bis zu diesem Augenblick dachte ich, es gäbe weder einen Gott noch eine Hölle. Jetzt weiß und fühle ich, dass es beides gibt, und ich bin durch das gerechte Urteil des Allmächtigen zur Verdammnis verurteilt."
5. VOLTAIRE - berühmter antichristlicher Atheist: "Ich habe nichts als Rauch geschluckt. Ich habe mich an dem Weihrauch berauscht, der mir den Kopf verdreht hat. Ich bin von Gott und den Menschen verlassen." Er sagte zu seinem Arzt, Dr. Fochin: "Ich gebe Ihnen die Hälfte von dem, was ich wert bin, wenn Sie mir sechs Monate Leben schenken." Als man ihm sagte, dass dies nicht möglich sei, sagte er: "Dann werde ich sterben und in die Hölle kommen!" Seine Krankenschwester sagte: "Für alles Geld der Welt würde ich nicht wollen, dass noch ein Ungläubiger stirbt! Die ganze Nacht hindurch schrie er um Vergebung."
6. ROBERT INGERSOLL - amerikanischer Schriftsteller und Redner während des Goldenen Zeitalters des freien Denkens: "O Gott, wenn es einen Gott gibt, rette meine Seele, wenn ich eine Seele habe!" Manche sagen, es wurde so gesagt: "Oh Gott, wenn es einen Gott gibt, rette meine Seele, wenn ich eine Seele habe, vor der Hölle, wenn es eine Hölle gibt!
7. DAVID HUME - Atheistischer Philosoph, berühmt für seine Philosophie des Empirismus und die Skepsis gegenüber der Religion: Auf seinem Sterbebett rief er laut: "Ich stehe in Flammen!" Es heißt, seine Verzweiflung sei eine schreckliche Szene gewesen.
8. NAPOLEON BONAPARTE - französischer Kaiser, der wie Adolf Hitler Millionen von Menschen in den Tod trieb, um seinen gierigen, machtbesessenen und egoistischen Ehrgeiz nach Welteroberung zu befriedigen: "Ich sterbe vor meiner Zeit, und mein Körper wird der Erde zurückgegeben werden. Das ist das Schicksal desjenigen, den man den großen Napoleon genannt hat. Welch ein Abgrund zwischen meinem tiefen Elend und dem ewigen Reich Christi!"
9. SIR FRANCIS NEWPORT - Leiter eines englischen Atheistenclubs, zu den um sein Sterbebett Versammelten: "Ihr braucht mir nicht zu sagen, dass es keinen Gott gibt, denn ich weiß, dass es einen gibt, und dass ich in seiner Gegenwart bin! Ihr braucht mir nicht zu sagen, dass es keine Hölle gibt. Ich fühle schon, wie ich entgleite. Ihr Elenden, hört auf mit eurem Gerede, es gäbe Hoffnung für mich! Ich weiß, ich bin für immer verloren! Oh, dieses Feuer! Oh, die unerträglichen Qualen der Hölle! Ach, könnte ich doch tausend Jahre lang im nie erlöschenden Feuer liegen, um die Gunst Gottes zu erkaufen und wieder mit ihm vereint zu sein. Aber es ist ein vergeblicher Wunsch. Millionen und Abermillionen von Jahren werden mich dem Ende meiner Qualen nicht näher bringen als eine arme Stunde. Oh, die Ewigkeit, die Ewigkeit für immer und ewig! Oh, die unerträglichen Qualen der Hölle!"
10. CHARLES IX. - Der französische König. Auf Drängen seiner Mutter gab er den Befehl zum Massaker an den französischen Hugenotten, bei dem allein in Paris 15.000 und in anderen Teilen Frankreichs 100.000 Seelen abgeschlachtet wurden, nur weil sie Christus liebten. Der schuldige König litt nach diesem Ereignis noch jahrelang unter dem Elend. Schließlich starb er blutüberströmt in seinen Adern. Zu seinen Ärzten sagte er in seinen letzten Stunden: "Ob ich schlafe oder wache, ich sehe die verstümmelten Gestalten der Hugenotten vor mir vorüberziehen. Sie tropfen vor Blut. Sie zeigen auf ihre offenen Wunden. Ach, hätte ich doch wenigstens die kleinen Säuglinge an der Brust verschont! Welches Blut! Ich weiß nicht, wo ich bin. Wie wird das alles enden? Was soll ich tun? Ich bin für immer verloren! Ich weiß es. Oh, ich habe Unrecht getan."
11. DAVID STRAUSS - Führender Vertreter des deutschen Rationalismus, nachdem er sein Leben damit verbracht hatte, den Glauben an Gott aus den Köpfen der anderen zu löschen: "Meine Philosophie lässt mich völlig ratlos zurück! Ich fühle mich wie einer, der in den unbarmherzigen Klauen eines Automaten gefangen ist, ohne zu wissen, wann einer seiner großen Hämmer mich zermalmen wird!"
12. JOSEF STALIN - sowjetisch-georgischer Revolutionär und Politiker. In einem Newsweek-Interview mit Swetlana Stalin, der Tochter von Josef Stalin, berichtete sie über den Tod ihres Vaters: "Mein Vater starb einen schweren und schrecklichen Tod. Gott gewährt nur den Gerechten einen leichten Tod. Im scheinbar allerletzten Moment öffnete er plötzlich die Augen und warf einen Blick auf alle Anwesenden. Es war ein schrecklicher Blick, wahnsinnig oder vielleicht zornig. Seine linke Hand war erhoben, als würde er auf etwas über ihm zeigen und einen Fluch über uns alle aussprechen. Die Geste war voll von Bedrohung. ...im nächsten Moment war er tot."
13. ANTON LEVEY - Autor der Satanischen Bibel und Hohepriester der Religion, die sich der Anbetung Satans verschrieben hat. Eines seiner berühmten Zitate war: "Es gibt eine Bestie im Menschen, die trainiert, nicht exorziert werden muss". Seine letzten Worte waren: "Oh je, oh je, was habe ich getan, da ist etwas ganz falsch. . . da ist etwas ganz falsch."
14. GANDHI - Bei seinem Tod sagte er: "Zum ersten Mal seit 50 Jahren befinde ich mich im Sumpf der Verzweiflung. Alles um mich herum ist Dunkelheit. Ich bete um Licht."
GELIEBTE, vergleicht diese letzten Worte von Atheisten mit diesen letzten Worten von diesen Heiligen Gottes:
DER APOSTEL PAUL: "O Tod, wo ist dein Stachel?"
KÖNIG DAVID: "Und ob ich schon wanderte im finsteren Tal, fürchte ich kein Unglück."
AUGUSTUS MONTAGUE TOPLADY (1710-1778): Toplady wird für immer als Autor eines der evangelischsten Kirchenlieder des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts, "Rock of Ages", das 1776 erstmals veröffentlicht wurde, berühmt sein.
Während seiner letzten Krankheit wurde Toplady von den Tröstungen des Evangeliums sehr unterstützt: "Die Tröstungen Gottes sind für einen so unwürdigen Menschen so reichhaltig, dass er mir nichts anderes übrig lässt, als um ihr Fortbestehen zu beten".
Kurz vor seinem Ende, als er aus dem Schlaf erwachte, sagte er: "Oh, welche Wonnen! Wer kann die Freude des dritten Himmels ergründen? Der Himmel ist klar, keine Wolke ist zu sehen; komm, Herr Jesus, komm schnell!" Er starb mit den Worten: "Kein sterblicher Mensch kann nach den Herrlichkeiten leben, die Gott meiner Seele offenbart hat."
Und schließlich sagte JESUS CHRISTUS: "Ich bin die Auferstehung und das Leben. Wer an mich glaubt, der wird leben, auch wenn er tot ist."
Nur Dummköpfe lernen nie aus der Geschichte, und es ist erstaunlich, dass selbst in unseren Tagen, in denen wir all diese Fakten zur Hand haben, jemand mit einem Verstand sein ganzes Leben einem Irrglauben widmen kann und will, dass jeder weiß, dass es keinen Gott gibt. Kein Wunder, dass die Bibel sagt: "Nur Narren sagen in ihrem Herzen: Es gibt keinen Gott." (Psalm 14:1)
