Die Verehrung der Gottesmutter ist uns Redemptoristen ein wichtiges Anliegen. Mit großer Wertschätzung blicken wir dabei auf eine Ikone, in welcher uns Maria unter dem Titel „Mutter von der Immerwährenden Hilfe“ begegnet.
Es handelt sich um ein Bild, das vermutlich im ausgehenden 14. Jahrhundert auf der Insel Kreta entstand. Es war später nach Rom gekommen, und wurde im Jahre 1866 von Papst Pius IX. unserer Kongregation anvertraut. Heute finden sich Kopien dieses Bildes überall, wo Redemptoristen leben und wirken. Auch über die missionarische Tätigkeit unserer Gemeinschaft erhielt und erhält es weite Verbreitung.
Man kann wohl zurecht sagen, dass die „Mutter von der Immerwährenden Hilfe“ eines der bekanntesten Marienbilder weltweit ist. Das Original befindet sich in der Kirche Sant’Alfonso in Rom.

SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI died the evening of Oct. 3, 1226. But shortly before his death, Francis appeared in silent testimony of the work of his glorious son, Anthony of Padua. During the last days of September the friars had assembled at Arles for a Chapter. Anthony preached, taking as text, "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews."
In the midst of Anthony's sermon, one of the friars noticed the presence of St. Francis in the room. The Seraphic Saint, suspended in air, stood with hands raised in blessing over the friars assembled there in solemn session. At that moment all present were filled with a great peace, so that they wondered what had happened. When the friar told of the vision he had seen, they knew that Francis had come to bless especially the work of Anthony, their conferere. He would truly be the Ark of the Testament and the Hammer of Heretics.

In a moment of rapturous love, Saint Francis of Assisi composed a hymn of praise to Our Lady, which begins with a striking list of her glories: “Hail, Lady, holy Queen, Mary, holy Mother of God, you who as a virgin have been made the Church!” The early-15th-century Camaldolese painter Lorenzo Monaco may not have been thinking of these exact words when he created his breathtaking Intercession of Christ and the Virgin, but his painting unveils their inner meaning with an unsurpassed richness. To think of Mary is to think of Christ—and of his Body, the Church.

Mary kneels in the right-hand corner of the painting, draped somewhat unusually in a cream-white garment, which reveals in its folds a lining of regal yellow. While writing this book, it revealed to the author the sublime truth in all the full magnificence of detail, that "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life," and that He who came down to earth, and was crowned with thorns, nailed with thorns, and who died on a Thau, was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the original. Due to its age, it may contain imperfections such as marks, notations, marginalia and flawed pages.
