St. Francis of Assissi was not a layman. In order to preach the Gospel he was mandated to receive ordination as a deacon. As for St. Benedict, He was a hermit then an abbot in a monastery, before going back to his hermitage. Hardly the life of a layman in the strict sense of the word. Pope Francis appears to of the opinion that he can do anything he wants in the Church without question. He appears to be just another South American dictator but ruling the Church. It is terifying.
