Nice Guy: On Sunday Pope Francis announced the creation of 17 new cardinals. One of them is Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of Tlalnepantla, Mexico, who studied together with Gloria.tv’s Fr Reto Nay in Rome. He is a nice guy, wrote a mediocre doctorate on Biblical theology, dressed up as a priest only exceptionally, and will go along with whatever ideological party is running the Vatican.

Amoris Laetitia a Grace? Archbishop Sérgio da Rocha of Brasilia, will also be made a cardinal in November. In April he called Pope Francis’ controversial document Amoris Laetitia a – quote – “grace of the Year of Mercy.” Da Rocha is a former Professor of Moral Theology.

A Fighter Against the Mass: Among the new cardinals is the 80-year-old Monsignor Renato Corti, the former bishop of Novara, Italy. He made headlines in 2007 when he suspended three priests who wanted to celebrate the Latin Mass. They were supported by 600 people. Corti was Vicar General and Auxiliary Bishop of radical Milan Cardinal Martini.

Only Party Followers: Notable eligible prelates, which Pope Francis will omit at the upcoming consistory, include Los Angeles Archbishop José Gomez and Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput. Francis prefers ultra-liberal prelates who have been publicly and clearly supportive of his heterodox interpretation of Amoris Laetitia.
