Human justice means giving everyone their due; God’s justice means giving everyone the best. No entrepreneur would act this way. But God is not that; He is neither an entrepreneur nor an accountant of merits. He is the Giver—One who does not calculate, yet knows how to fill us with surprises. "Do you begrudge my generosity?" No, Lord, I do not begrudge it at all, for I am the humblest of laborers, and I know You will come out to seek me again, even in the final light.
God forgives through an act of faith in man, because he sees beyond us, he sees the light before the shadow, the saint before the sinner, the ears of good grain before the weeds. He sees that every life is a womb ready for something more. And the forgiving person has the same eyes as God. A scandal to justice, folly to intelligence, but a consolation for us debtors.
Only those who love us know how to care for and admonish us in the right way; others only know how to hurt or flatter. After having thus questioned your heart, you go and speak, you take the first step, you try to rekindle the relationship. Far from appearances, at the heart of life, everything begins with the building block of reality, the "I-you" relationship.
If you want to follow me...
But why follow Him? Why follow Him? It's Jeremiah's drama: enough with God, I'm done with Him, it's too much. Who hasn't suffered it? Blessed, however, are those who persevere, like the prophet: in my heart there was something like a fire, I tried to contain it but I couldn't. Without this fire (a burning bush, a lamp, or a simple match in the night), I might gain the world but I would lose myself.
You are the Son of the living God, the One who makes my life come alive, the miracle that makes it powerful, inexhaustible, and limitless. The question now comes back to me: why do I follow Him? The answer is simple: to be happy. Christ has been the best thing in my life. Which doesn't mean having a life without problems or wounds, but one that is fuller, more vibrant, passionate, and focused: forward, around, and above.
On the day when our faith runs thin or our pain runs deep, when all that rises from the depths of our being is a wordless groan — "I'm afraid, help me, I'm going under" — in that moment God will draw near like bread for his children, like crumbs for every human pup. "Great is your faith.“ Faith is still great on this earth, because great is the number of mothers — women of Tyre, of Sidon, of anywhere at all — who don't know the Creed or the catechism, but know the heart of God. They …Altro
The miracle of the loaves is, above all, a miracle of hands—even more than a miracle of bread. The bread passes from hand to hand: from the disciples to Jesus, from Jesus back to the disciples, and from the disciples to the crowd. So open your hands.
Whatever bread you have to share, do not hold it back. Unclench your fist. Be like the bud that opens, the seed that breaks apart so new life can emerge, the cloud that pours out its rain upon the earth.
God saves — that is faith. What use is catechism to Peter while he's sinking? The inalienable root of faith is a cry that stays lodged in the heart: Lord, I need you, save me. Nothing erases it, not even in the most lost or distracted person, not even in the nonbeliever. The moment of sinking, of fear, comes for everyone. The first step of faith is a cry. Or even the groan of a pain with no words: I need you!
The Gospel asks each of us a simple but profound question: Is God a treasure in your life, or merely a burden? Is He the pearl of great price, or simply an obligation? I feel like the fortunate farmer and the wealthy merchant because I have discovered the joy of believing and the joy of loving God. Faith is a celebration of the heart, the mind, and the soul. This is not something to boast about. It is a responsibility—a treasure meant to be shared.
A mature, clear, and sincere conscience should focus not so much on defects as on the goodness and beauty that have been sown within us.
Then our fundamental spiritual task will be to help the divine seeds, talents, potentialities, and germs of heaven mature—in ourselves and in others.
Let them burst forth in all their power and beauty, and we will see the forces of goodness push the night farther away. For us, is God a treasure—or only a burden?
Not “a” sower, but “the” sower—the one who is identified with sowing itself, who does nothing but scatter divine seeds, give life, and make fertile. Sower: one of the most beautiful names of God. An apparently illogical sower, who places hope even in stones, among thorns, and on the trampled path; an incurable prodigal. A dreamer who sees life and a future everywhere, convinced that even wasteland can be transformed into a garden.
Take my yoke, that is, take upon yourselves the ancient newness of the Gospel, which is oxygen, which never wounds what is close to the heart of man, never prohibits what gives man joy and life. And you will grasp the profound law, the warm current that flows beneath all the pages of the book of existence, fertilizing them, coloring them. And making them smell of the universe.
Whoever has lost will find. Losing one's life does not mean being killed: a life is lost only as one loses a treasure, by giving it away. We truly possess only what we have given to others.
Beautiful is this God who does the unthinkable for me, what no one has ever done, what no one will ever do. Nights and hunters' nets will come, death will also come, but: nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God (Rom 8:39). Yes, it's true: sparrows and hairs are not exempt from death. But Jesus teaches me the right to reclaim every last fiber of this body of mine that has witnessed the beauty and the toil of living.
God's compassion breaks deserving or not, paradigm. It lays two tracks on which to go beyond the arid deserts of the good/bad paradigm: they are the hands of mercy and the lips of prayer, which make Christian love what it should be, an increasingly less selective love. God does not wait to be loved in return, meanwhile he loves; he does not wait to be loved in return, meanwhile he gives. Jesus is the story of this new God, a passion of compassion, a proclamation that only …Altro
Vivi di me.
Live of me. Take My life as the high measure of living, like leaven of your bread, seed of your field, blood of your veins, then you will know what it means to truly live. Eating and drinking Christ means more than "taking communion" in the Eucharist, it is "taking communion with Him."
The Word became flesh so that the flesh might become Spirit.
The Trinity is the mirror of my ultimate meaning, and of the meaning of the universe: all moving toward a Father who is the source of free lives, toward a Son who makes me to fall in love, toward a Spirit who ignites our solitude with communion. Tell them that an immense goodness penetrates the universe, tell them that God is not what they believe, that He is a festive wine, a banquet of sharing in which each gives and receives.
The Gospel recounts Pentecost as a light-hearted encounter on Easter evening: "He breathed on them and said, 'Receive the Holy Spirit". Into that closed room and stagnant air, the great, broad, and profound oxygen of heaven enters. Enter the breath of God that does not tolerate schemes and closures, that comes to make us alive, subtle and deep like breathing, humble and stubborn like the heartbeat.
Great Jesus, who does not present Himself as someone who solves your problems, but as one who offers horizons, who makes life greater. But He does not leave them alone with their limitations: "I am with you always" until the end of the world. You may abandon Him, but He will never abandon you. He has imbued the world with God, and He has imbued your life with it; the world and you are baptized by it. If only I were capable of feeling and enjoying this, I would walk the earth with a dance …Altro
What a sense of vitality and wide-open paths, of buds unfolding and births! We have a God who presides over all births, who precedes us on all paths, who bursts forth from the future and not from the past. "I will not leave you orphans; I live, and you shall live." Giving life is God's calling, His calling. God's first law is that man should live, and this is also his greatest joy.
