Spain: Whole Convent of Poor Clares Joins a Sedevacantist Group
De Rojas was educated in an Opus Dei school and later became close to the Priestly Society of Pius X. In 2005 he founded his own "Pía Unión de San Pablo Apóstol" in Bilbao. This group has about 100 members and some "clergy" and is somehow linked to Palmar de Troya, Seville, a group that has its own "pope" who comes from Switzerland and has invented its own Novus Ordo.
De Rojas's headquarters in Bilbao has ornaments everywhere, bookcases, ornate furniture, crockery and maids in bonnets. In 2017, he participated in a 1900s fashion show in Bilbao organised by Fernando Botanz who presents himself as a homosexual and who, according to InfoVaticana.com, has a close relationship with De Rojas.
De Rojas was "ordained" a "bishop" by the sedevacantist Daniel Dolan, probably a Thuc bishop. Bishop Richard Williamson allegedly consecrated him a "second time" in June 2019, but there is no public record of this.
Following this alleged consecration, Monsignor Mario Iceta, then Bishop of Bilbao, excommunicated De Rojas in July 2019. The same Mgr. Iceta became Archbishop of Burgos in October 2020 and was the ecclesiastical superior of the Poor Clares of Belorado, who have now abandoned him.
In a statement on 13 May, the sisters say that "in recent years, contradictions, double and confusing language, ambiguities and doctrinal gaps have come from the Chair of Peter" (which is true).
They also consider themselves "victims" of persecution because they are being "blocked by Rome" in a property deal.
Therefore, they are leaving the "Conciliar Church" to become part of the "Catholic Church under the tutelage and jurisdiction of Pablo de Rojas Sánchez-Franco, legitimate Bishop of the Holy Catholic Church".
The archdiocese responded swiftly in a 13 May communiqué, saying that until recently, including the most recent communication with the archdiocese, the nuns have expressed their gratitude and satisfaction. Their chaplains were unaware of the situation and expressed perplexity.
The property deal concerns the empty convent in Orduña, 85 km north-east of Belorado, diocese of Vitoria, abandoned by a community of Poor Clares.
The convent has been for sale since 2002. In 2020, the nuns of Belorado signed an agreement to buy it for €1,200,000, to be paid over two years. The first payment was due on 1 November 2022, but the money never arrived.
The plan was to pay for the Orduña convent with money from the sale of third monastery they own, the convent of Derio, 50 km north of Orduña. To date, however, that convent has not been sold.
But in March 2024, Sister Isabel, the superior of the nuns in Belorado, came up with a new explanation. She claimed that she had a benefactor who would buy the convent of Orduña and sell it to her community once the convent of Derio was sold and they had the funds to buy the new premises.
The Bishop of Vitoria went to see Sister Isabel to talk about this mysterious benefactor, but she wouldn't see him. The other nuns said that "only Isabel" knew the name.
The Poor Clares of Orduña wanted to cancel the purchase contract because they suspected that the anonymous benefactor was not a member of the Catholic Church.
But Sister Isabel suddenly demanded 1,600,000 euros for alleged work that had already been done in the convent of Orduña. She refused to cancel the contract, and took the matter to court.
