Another Cardinal Showed Up
Vatican
Yesterday a Pontifical Mass was celebrated at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica. The Mass was scheduled to be celebrated by Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship. But at the end, Cardinal Walter Brandmueller wound up being the celebrant. According to the blog of Father John Zuhlsdorf, Canizares had by accidentally scheduled a flight, apparently because he had been under the impression that this was going to be a Low Mass. “Things happen” – Father Zuhlsdorf comments.
Again: No Meat on Fridays
England
The bishops of England and Wales are re-establishing the practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays – Zenith has reported. The re-establishment of the practice was announced in the resolutions published from the bishops’ spring plenary assembly, which concluded last Thursday. The Bishops wish to re-establish the practice of Friday penance in the lives of the faithful as a clear and distinctive mark of their own Catholic identity.
Seminarians Want to Be Ordained in the Old Rite
Internet
On his blog, Father John Zuhlsdorf has asked diocesan seminarians the following questions: “If you were given the choice, would you prefer to be ordained with the older, pre-Conciliar form or the newer book, the rite reformed by Paul VI and John Paul II, even in Latin?” The answer: 26 diocesan seminarians would prefer the Old Rite and 4 the New Rite.
Priest Who Died in Dachau Beatified
Germany
Yesterday, the German priest Georg Haefner was beatified by Cardinal Angelo Amato at a ceremony in the cathedral of Wurzburg. Haefner died in 1942 of starvation and disease at the concentration camp in Dachau. He was one of nearly 500 German and Austrian clerics to be jailed. His reported offense had been to preach against the rise of the Third Reich. Haefner forgave his tormentors from his heart and wrote to his parents from prison: "Let us seek to be good with everyone."

26 is obviously not a large sample but does it not provide at least some information? Will this trend toward tradition continue and can that information then be extrapolate to a larger population?
Latinos who immigrate to the United States hold fast to the traditions and celebrations of their native land including Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Cinco de May (5th of May), Mexican food and traditional songs and dancing. The same identification with their traditions can be said about the Polish and, of course, Italians.
No Mexicans, no Polish and no Italians, to the best of my knowledge, would ever be so naive as to suggest, “Well, this is 2011. Lets forget about our traditional language, forget about our traditional food, forget about our traditional dances, customs and music and let's begin a NEW SPRINGTIME.” “Let's shake things up and make our culture more appealing to the “modern world.”
Those with common sense and vision would know that such a suggestion would be a betrayal to the centuries of joy, self-identification and ethnic pride that comes from holding to such traditions. In addition, if such a simple-minded plan were implemented, it would have devastating negative effects on the spirit and pride of those individuals who suffered under such a short sited scheme.
For a classic example of modernism, the abandonment of its glorious traditons and the sad effects upon those under its influence, study the post conciliar Catholic Church.
