These practices are inward directed and can never substitute for our love of neighbor..."“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it?" Luke 15:4.

I agree with @Live Mike Our Lord commands us to pray for our enemies and those who persecute us. Instead of fruitlessly moaning about our spiritual and temporal leaders, and also those who have power over us - and frequently abuse it - do something concrete and have Masses offered, pray rosaries and make sacrifices for them. Instead of fruitlessly moaning about our spiritual and temporal leaders, and also those who have power over us - and frequently abuse it - do something concrete and have Masses offered, pray rosaries and make sacrifices for them. Our Lady said at Fatima that "Many souls go to Hell because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them". So if we pray and sacrifice for these souls, then there is hope for them. Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. And as you wish that men would …More

And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. "And Saul was consenting to his [St. Stephen's] death. And on that day a great persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the region of Judea and Samar′ia, except the apostles. Devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him. But Saul laid waste the church, and entering house after house, he dragged off men and women and committed them …More

Christians who heard the voice of Christ and watched Him die on the Cross were obedient to the Lord's teachings in the Gospel of Luke 6:27-36.
