Cardinal Pell said the first Latin Mass (since Vatican II days) in St. Patrick's in Melbourne, Australia in 1992. I remember being very impressed with that. That said, bitter experience has taught me that the clergy - including clergy in the SSPX and the so-called 'resistance' - have made a policy of covering up child abuse among the ranks to the point of silencing the victims. I do not claim this to be malicious but rather that it stems from a lack of understanding of the terrible vice itself and from a deep seated belief that protecting "the institution" is the greater good. My heart goes out to that couple whose daughters were abused by that priest. I cannot imagine how they are holding it together as they are. I have three daughters and I would become dangerous if anyone touched them in that way. So john 333, while I agree with you that Cardinal Pell has a lot to answer for in that case, I also agree that it was unnecessary to go to town on him here. It's out of place in context of the discussion and not everything Cardinal Pell is accused of is true. We need to be careful.
