I once thought that the “clean lines” of modern furniture had an appeal. I was a Protestant then, so it can be overlooked. God makes nothing simple. Everything is dazzlingly complex. And when we attempt to create beauty, it always is complex. It seems that those drained of God’s spirit prefer these sterile, simple forms which match their sterile, simple souls. I say that with great empathy since I was indeed one of them for many years.
