Francis' Next Victim: Underground Bishop Pressured To Betray

Underground Yujiang Bishop John Peng Weizhao, 56, has been installed as a state auxiliary bishop of Jiangxi.

Peng was ordained a priest in 1989 and secretly consecrated a bishop in 2014 with Francis' placet. In the same year he was arrested for several months.

On September 22, Peng told his clergy that he had resigned as Yujiang Bishop and accepted to become a state bishop as the regime was planning to integrate his diocese into the Diocese of Jiangxi.

Peng's installation, presided over by State Bishop John Baptist Li Suguang, vice-president of the Chinese state bishops, was attended by 200 people.

Peng read an oath promising to adhere to the “principle of independent, self-governing churches” and “to actively lead Catholicism to adapt to socialist society” - a process most Western Novus Ordo bishops have already gone through.

AsiaNews.it highlights that Peng came under "enormous pressure" [from the Vatican] after the Vatican's 2018 secret deal.

His case is similar to Mindong Bishop Guo Xiijin whom the Vatican forced to give up his diocese to become a state auxiliary bishop.
