Francis received Archbishop Georg Gänswein in audience on 3 January, Vatican.va reported.

The sisters of Memores Domini, who ran Benedict XVI's household for many years, were also present. No further details of the meeting were given.

Monsignor Gänswein was in Rome last weekend to address a Vatican conference marking the first anniversary of Benedict XVI's death.

They're consecrated women, not sisters or nuns, so there's nothing inappropriate about the way they're dressed. There's a long history of such women in the Church.

@Sandy Barrett Sadly, “unconsecrated” women would be a better description for this gaggle. Their appearance bespeaks the repudiation of their holy vows.

The consecrated women had not entered the Apostolic Palace since 28 February 2013.
