Spanish websites VidaNuevaDigital.com and ReligionDigital.org reported fake news about him, Archbishop Georg Gänswein told Die-Tagespost.de (October 19).
Their reports appeared in the context of an event with Gänswein in Madrid planned for Wednesday evening, but cancelled at short notice apparently due to pressure from Francis' party.
ReligionDigital.org had claimed that Francis had "expressly forbidden" Gänswein to travel abroad without permission from church authorities. This is "completely inaccurate" and "simply an invention" Gänswein denied. There is no such prohibition, he said.
VidaNuevaDigital.com had reported that Gänswein had rejected alleged offers from Francis to head a German or Italian diocese, demanding an important position in the Curia.
