Vinegar Face: Francis Blessed “His Own Heart”

Francis personally decided to donate a bronze sculpture by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz to Canadian Indians during his visit, Schmalz who describes himself as “an artistic soldier” for Francis, told NcrOnline.org (August 1).

The sculpture reportedly depicts Augsburg's Our Lady Untier of Knots. Schmalz aptly calls his sour-faced, androgynous statue with a menacing frown “a portrait of Francis' heart.”

MilesChristi.Blogspot.com is reminded of Pachamama rather than Our Lady. Moreover, the statue doesn’t crush the serpent’s head but only steps on its tail, leaving it free to act. The angels flanking the figure are one male and one female suggesting a unity of opposites.

Francis blessed the sculpture at Lake Sainte Anne. In 2019, Schmalz produced a depiction of migrants for St Peter’s square and a homeless Christ in Toronto.

When I look at this, I see three male characters, all pretty grumpy and a very large old fashioned stitched football. I can't see the lead character's feet - I refuse to call it Our Lady - so not sure how we know it's not stepping on the head of the snake, because I can't see a snake at all. Unless it's being unravelled? It looks more like a cord, though. Any help on where it is?

I've not seen any more of this artist's work but he's certainly talented; if only he knew that women tend to look like women unless on gender-bending drugs. There we have it - Our Lady is now ....well, you get my drift.

Saint Irenaeus explained that the Virgin Mary with her obedience and credulity untied the knot of disobedience and disbelief of Eve. But Bergoglio binds the Indians in their disobedience to the True God and makes them believe their false gods and not God.

Mr Schmalz is a talented sculptor who has produced some lovely pieces. Sadly, this is not one of them.

Yes, I saw some beautiful sculptures but unfortunately I would classify him as a secular sculptor, who does not keep the Catholic tradition. He himself considers a controversial sculpture that uses Marxist names such as 'oppression'. He has represented Christ naked. Like these other immodest sculptures. Many of his works represent the Marxist theology of liberation.
