PiusX: Another Huge Church

The Society PiusX is building a large church in Gavrus, a village of 600 inhabitants outside Caen, France.

The church is modelled on an eighteenth-century building. It costs only €1.6m, will be finished by 2025 and is financed by the faithful.

France3 (August 27) calls the church “impressive” and is surprised that a community would build a brand new church in a region where many churches are unused or in a state of disrepair. No new church has been built in the area since Vatican II.

Although there are gazillions of empty church buildings in France the SSPX has to build their own

According to a friend in the S/W of England,, an SSPX Chapel is very much prayed for down in Cornwall, Apparently, there is not one SSPX Chapel anywhere in Cornwall at all! Maybe the SSPX could revitalize the Pilgrimage Site of St Michaels Mount by opening up a Chapel near to it, or building a Seminary or Monastery near the Shrine? That might restore the Catholic presence to the area again... Prior to the Reformation, it seems the Mount was the UK's oldest Pilgrimage Site. St Michael the Archangel having appeared there on two separate occasions. (the first time in the 3rd cent. to some Fishermen, the second time to St Keyna a couple of hundred years later.

The Mount gets plenty of visitors (even though it is now a National Trust property! ) Yet, when I took a trip there last I did notice that it has a remarkable spiritual resonance which pretty much impacts you as you drive by!- Large amounts of tourists visit the Site to wander around, but sadly, it's not to take part in a Pilgrimage that the majority of people are interested in it! Maybe an SSPX Chapel or Monastery would restore the RC interest in the area? It seems a shame not to!

St Michael, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Amen
