Tucho Believes that Correct Decisions Can Quench "the Spirit"

At a November 22 conference on the Roman Inquisition in the Vatican, Tucho Fernández repeated the historical nonsense that Francis wrote to him when he was appointed, namely, that the methods of the Inquisition "can be called immoral."

In fact, Francis' method ("everything for my friends, not even justice for the others") can "be called immoral."

Tucho believes that the lofty task of the CDF is to “increase the intelligence of the faith” and to “avoid not only errors but also decisions that ‘quench’ the spirit, because, although formally correct, they can undermine the richness of the faith.”

However, from the documents that Tucho has published so far, only the spirit of incompetence, carelessness, and intellectual laziness can be discerned.

The Inquisition was a valuable tool against heresy in the Catholic Church. It was the State in various countries (Spain etc.) that gave into torture much more so than the Church in punishing heretics. King Phillip II of Spain was influential, and a little excessive in the stamping out of heresy, because some of his agents were sadistic laymen who enjoyed killing. It has been proven that the Roman Catholic Church was guilty of only a tiny percentage of those executed for heresy. Their job was to investigate and try the person for heresy, and if guilty, turned over to the State, which executed the vast majority.

There is a real question, Matthew 23, Jesus gives a litany of “woes” to the scribes and Pharisees. These were awful people in religious office. He tells the crowd to listen to what they say. So, we need to respect the office.
My way around it, which is a bit shaky, is that when a prelate gives decorating advice, you violate neither faith nor morals when you ignore him, since that is not his role. His role is to preserve and promote the Apostolic Tradition. In this case, Poor Tucho, is advising against the Apostolic Tradition. I fear for his soul. I will listen to those statements no more seriously than I would listen to his decorating advice.
