On September 23, 1994, Catholic priest Gordon J. MacRae (his website) was falsely convicted by a jury of five counts of sexual assault in Cheshire County Superior Court, Keene, New Hampshire. The charges of sexual assault of a 15-year-old were alleged to have occurred between 1979 and 1983.
Despite no evidence of guilt, and much suppressed evidence of fraud, the jury reached a verdict in 90 minutes.
The accuser at trial, 27-year-old Thomas Grover, testified that he came to Father MacRae for counseling for his drug addiction at age 15, was raped in the priest's office, then repressed the memory of the assault returning from week to week unable to remember that he had been assaulted in the weeks before.
Judge Arthur Brennan instructed the jury to “disregard inconsistencies in Thomas Grover's testimony.” The judge also kept from the jury Thomas Grover’s criminal convictions for fraud, forgery, theft, assault, and drug charges.

My wife Alice and I have known Fr Gordon for the passed 15 years , during that time we visited each Christmas, the only time that you could visit more then one prisoner during the Christmas gathering in jail, ever since we got to know Fr G as we call him we have followed his post , there is no question in our mind that Fr G is innocent, anyone that turns down a plea as he was offered and spend twenty …More
My wife Alice and I have known Fr Gordon for the passed 15 years , during that time we visited each Christmas, the only time that you could visit more then one prisoner during the Christmas gathering in jail, ever since we got to know Fr G as we call him we have followed his post , there is no question in our mind that Fr G is innocent, anyone that turns down a plea as he was offered and spend twenty nine years in prison to live his faith and conviction should be proof of innocence. Much has been written and it is about time that the corrupt legal system of New Hampshire comes to deal with this case

Then I found Frather MacRae and came to realize this ruch to judgement based on emotive testimony alone is much more frequent that we assume. I was lucky. Then I found Frather MacRae and came to realize this ruch to judgement based on emotive testimony alone is much more frequent that we assume. I was lucky. The investigator first took the case he wanted to be a hero. Luckily he had integrity and I was sparred while others, like Fr. MacRae, were defamed, stripped of life savings and then imprisoned. His willingness to live out a life of truth is what I admire most.
