The last German philosopher, Alma von Stockhausen, 92, the founder of the Gustav Siewerth Academy, is dead.
Stockhausen died on the morning of May 4 after having suffered form cancer.
She received her doctorate in 1954 with a thesis on the Analogia entis under Thomas von Aquin in Freiburg. Her supervisor was Max Müller (+1994) who had studied under Martin Heidegger (+1976). Stockhausen also participated in Martin Heidegger's seminars.
From 1962 until her retirement, Stockhausen taught as a professor of philosophy at the Freiburg College of Education.
In 1988 she founded the Gustav-Siewerth-Academy as a response to the Marxism and anti-Church hostility towards the 68-movement. Joseph Ratzinger lectured at the Academy.
Stockhausen distinguished herself as a profound critic of the dialectical thinking of Martin Luther, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Martin Heidegger, and the ideology of evolution. Her analysis was unique and illuminating.
