Traditionis Custodes: Francis' Axe Destroys Another Mass

The 7:30 a.m. Roman Rite Mass at St Mary's Cathedral in Austin, Texas, will be cancelled as of 19 March, according to the Facebook user Domus Dei.

The Mass will continue for the time being at three other locations in the diocese: Dripping Springs, Brenham and Waco. It is 23.1 miles (37 km) from Austin to Dripping Springs, 89.9 miles (145km) to Brenham and 103.8 miles (167km) to Waco.

The number of faithful at the Mass was large. Prolife activist Abby Johnson had recently begun attending Mass there.

Bishop Joe Steve Vásquez of Austin, 66, was appointed by Benedict XVI in 2010. He took over as apostolic administrator of Tyler in November after Francis unjustly removed the Confessor Bishop Joseph Strickland.

Maybe I'm taking a different perspective being a Texan, but this Ratzinger bishop may have out Jesuited the Ole tradition hating Jesuit in Rome by closing the TLM in Austin and opening up 3 new locations. He may have done a survey on where most of the Latin mass attendees resided and placed them in these locations, making it easier and more accessible. So, now we have 3 new TLM's, Dripping Springs …More

@philosopher Let us all pray fervently that your perspective is indeed the correct one. If so, it would certainly be a very strategically smart move on the part of the Bishop. But sadly, I fear your optimism may very well be misplaced; because this is the Prelate selected by the Vatican to replace the beloved Bishop of Tyler as the interim administrator for his Diocese there in Texas, after the evil shenanigans surrounding his untimely and unjustified removal. So, in the words of the Blind Man: "we shall see."

The 3 other locations are not new. They are the only remaining locations where the TLM is available in the Austin Diocese. Bishop Vasquez is a good man. He did not want to end the TLM in Austin. He had requested from the Vatican to allow the TLM to continue at the cathedral in Austin. The Vatican said no.

I was the Master of Ceremonies of that Mass in Austin for over four years. I brought it from sloppy obscurity to something phenomenal using my training in seminary. I was ousted after COVID because I was pushing us to use the 1945 edition of the Missal, and wrote a strongly worded letter to the bishop. This was not a sudden thing with TC, but was an ongoing process of eliminating the Latin Mass …More

@Stephanie S I wasn't aware that the other TLM locations already existed; thank you for the clarification. Do you think that many of the parishioners of St. Mary's Cathedral will attend the SSPX masses in Austin?
philosopher
@SonoftheChurch My optimism could be wrong but I do know that bishop Vasquez is a friend and supporter of tradition. He was forced by PF to end it and will do what he can to assist the 3 other locations.
Maxwell Edward Garrison
@SonoftheChurch He really isn't that great a friend of tradition, other than letting it in the Cathedral. A lot of the things we did were pretty spontaneous, and over time we were prevented from doing a lot of them, such as moving the Novus Ordo table out of the way of our Mass.
philosopher
Sounds like sour grapes b/c you didn't get the TLM your way, the way you envisioned it. If one goes to an SSPX chapel there is nothing spontaneous about the TLM.
Maxwell Edward Garrison
@philosopher Someone with that name should be aware of the fallacy of ad hominem. I envisioned nothing. It is simply adherence to the Missal of Pius V, not Pius XII or John XXIII, and the traditions associated with the first as passed down. The SSPX has a very perfunctory "T"LM.
Stephanie S
@philosopher I am not aware of any SSPX masses in Austin. If you know of any, please share the information. Thank you!

Won’t a lot of the two-year reprieves from the year following TC expire this year?

We get what we deserve. Bishops either have special interests, don't care, don't believe or are weak minded. Hold on to your faith and pray for the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

They love their power and comfort (a cardinal in Rome even admitted that he could not "live" without his driver, if he went against Bergoglio) more than Christ's Church. They have all ingested what 'Francis' called: "the act of love" (remember the lock down?) All of them wobbly pastors without direction - they've lost their Catholic Compass, if they ever had one!
