I agree. I think it was a mistake to assume that, in virtually every case, the one who commits suicide is impeded in their exercise of free will, and thus still entitled to public funeral rites. This does not mean that pastors can withhold compassion from their families, or that the deceased is, necessarily, condemned. And, funerals for those who commit suicide have a tendency to be even more scandalous than the average “canonization” style funeral. It’s a bad business.
