US Nuncio: "Leo XIV Follows Francis Back to Vatican II"
Monsignor Pierre said: “Even if some are inclined to pursue a path that diverges from Francis' pastoral vision, we know that the way forward is the path of Francis.”
Nuncio Pierre expects “continuity between Francis and Leo XIV”.
He added that Francis’s pontificate "was not marked by innovation for its own sake, but rather to more fully reflect the vision of the Council."
He urged the US bishops to look – out of all - to the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) as a "map" to guide the future direction of the Church: “The council is not behind us, it stands before us, the map for our journey.”
“The council's vision was a vision for the future, the prophetic orientation to a world that was only beginning to take shape.”
Sixty years after Vatican II, there is barely anything left of the Church to shape.
