Colorful Labels for Cardinals: "Manchurian Candidate", "Bicycling Beanpole" and "the Bozo from Gozo"

Damian Thompson has gone through the list of possible candidates at the next conclave. Key points from his article about the next conclave in 'Spectator'.

- Cardinal Pietro Parolin behaves like "a pope-in-waiting". He is portrayed as a 'moderate' but there is nothing moderate about the surrender to Beijing. He is the "Manchurian candidate". Parolin’s attitude against the traditional Latin Mass – increasingly popular with young Catholics – can hardly be described as tolerant.

- Sidenote on the Chinese allies of Parolin: Beijing, which owned the gay hookup app Grindr when it was installed on hundreds of clerical smartphones, has vast amounts of Kompromat to play with, perhaps a factor in the Vatican's kowtowing to the Chinese Communist Party.

- Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, a bicycling beanpole, - widely seen as Parolin's rival among the Italian bishops - is a kind-hearted socialist and homosexual propagandist.

- Cardinal Luis Tagle of the Philippines was mysteriously demoted by Francis as head of Evangelization, but is now back in favor.

- Cardinal Mario Grech , the Maltese secretary general of the Synod of Bishops, is despised by conservatives who call him "the bozo from Gozo".

- The 'conservatives' don't seem to have a candidate.

- Cardinal Peter Erdő of Budapest is nervous and hesitant.

- The ex-Protestant Cardinal Anders Arborelius of Stockholm is deeply spiritual, but it doesn't help that he is a Carmelite - after a Jesuit pope. Cardinals are wary of electing another member of an order.

- Cardinal Fernando Filoni is a diplomat who risked his life as ambassador to Baghdad, but he's been accused of keeping quiet about the homosexual Cardinal McCarrick.

- Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, made headlines when he offered himself as a hostage in place of Israeli children. He has a dignified charisma and doesn't belong to any faction, but at 59 he is young.

- None of the above can boast a contacts book, knowledge of secrets or reserves of patronage to compare with those of Cardinal Parolin.

- Another side note: Hong Kong Cardinal Joseph Zen, 93, wants to be in Rome for possible pre-conclave meetings but Cardinal Parolin wants to stop him. Will Beijing intervene? Zen called Parolin a "poisoned mind". "Parolin himself knows he is lying."

Cardinal Parolin is campaigning hard to be the next pope.

Which disqualifies him.

A faithful Catholic man not half these sinister people promoting sin and who are liars, living double lives. A real Catholic man would dismiss the way too many men in red who are anti Christ.

@chris griffin good points. Imagine a Pope that invited young families with newborns to weekly luncheons at the Vatican instead of men who identify as women.

Our Lord's Holy Church needs a Catholic to sit on Peter's chair.

The world needs an actively pro-life Pope. He could stand on the sidewalk in front of abortion mills. He could make Papal visits to countries considering more liberal abortion laws. He could educated the world that the condemnation of abortion is an infallible doctrine of the Catholic Church equal in authority to all the Mariam dogmas and the founding of the Catholic Church by Christ.

Dr Bobus

JPII did that for most of his papacy. What is needed now is a pope who wants to reform the Church.
Damien's list is too Eurocentric.

@Dr Bobus...JP2 did some of this during his early part of his term. Any decent Pope can reform the Church rather quickly. Abortion is a leading cause of death and a leading cause of Hell. He is the world's #1 defender of the unborn and he should act like it.

Dr Bobus

You underestimate the difficulty of reform

Of those listed above in this post, His Eminence, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, would be the best and only viable Candidate for the Papacy. Clearly the bar is set extremely low and the pool of qualified and credible Candidates is microscopically shallow. Divine intervention is our ONLY hope for a Holy Pope. Pray, pray, pray……

@SonoftheChurch deeply respect to your great opinion... I know that Cardinal Pizzaballa has been very concerned about the Catholic and Christian communities in Israel, as well as the Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian and Armenian Christian communities, and has made it clear that the persecution and repression of Christian communities by the misguided Zionists is on the rise...If the Lord chooses Cardinal Pizzaballa to be Pope, I am sure he will be a much better Pope than we have now...I would like to see three cardinals besides Cardinal Pizzaballa become Pope, the first one is Eminence Cardinal Peter Erdő, Archbishop of Budapest, Hungary.... I know that you are very interested in defending the Orthodox Faith, and I know that Cardinal Erdo opposed with the Hungarian bishops the issuance of the ridiculous Fiducia supplicans, a document blessing same-sex unions, and I know that he emphasized that our faith must not be perverted.... I know that you are also interested in protecting the sacraments of the traditional Latin Mass... The second is Eminence Cardinal Willem Eijk, Archbishop of Utrecht, the Netherlands... I've heard that Cardinal Eijk is a surgeon by training, and that he is a staunch opponent of LGBT ideology and has made it clear that a papal encyclical is needed to warn against false gender ideology in particular, so I think that if the Lord chooses Cardinal Eijk as Pope, he will fight even harder in this area. ....
last is a Eminence Cardinal Müller... Cardinal Müller, as you know, has been a constant voice in defense of Orthodoxy, even though he has many shortcomings, and he is a former Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, so I am sure that if the Lord chooses him as Pope, he will be a much better Pope than we have now... So I would like to see these three men as the next Pope, but I am sure that if another orthodox cardinal becomes Pope in addition to these men, that would be very good too, but as I said, I realize that it will be very difficult to have an orthodox Pope because Bergoglio has made so many errant men Cardinals...one more stronlgy tell about it.... We are convinced that even if we do not get an Orthodox Pope, we must defend Orthodox teaching and spread the correct truth until the moment our Lord Jesus Christ allows, whether that moment is today or tomorrow.... Anyway... We are preparing for a time of great persecution!!!! Lord Jesus Christ... have mercy on us... please protect to your Holy Catholic Church.. Holy Mary, all Angels and Saints... pray for us.. Amen... just we are going to Lord's victory way.... very hard time, difficult time... but we must believe to real Light's win.... Light erase to dark!! dark can't erase to Light!!!! take care.. have a great time... always learning a lot to your great opinions... cheerful to you too...

Who said the Lord chooses the pope?
