Becciu Trial: FRANCIS Is the Elephant in the Room

This would inevitably implicate Francis who from the beginning was part of the scandal since he authorised negotiations with the accused broker Gianluigi Torzi.
A video of the interrogation of Monsignor Alberto Perlasca, the prosecution’s star witness, shows how Perlasca looks shocked when investigators tell him that his answers didn't coincide with what Francis had told them. However, Francis statements were not made available to the defence.
The lawyer representing the financier Enrico Crasso asked why this is so. Defence lawyers for Fabrizio Tirabassi say that the trial is null and void without hearing Francis.
Francis, not a model of truthfulness, would likely become entangled in (more) contradictions during cross-examination. Eager to play according to the rules of the world, he may be overthrown by those same rules.
But there is hope for him. Vatican judge Giuseppe Pignatone declared that the trial will not go ahead as long as the evidence is not on the table, adding that “it still takes time to start, if we can start at all".
