India: Priest Commits Suicide

Father Anil Francis, 40, Sagar Diocese, India, hanged himself from a tree in Sagar, northern India, on September 14.

He was the headmaster of a Catholic primary school in Garhakota and was under pressure after a complaint was filed against him for a social media post in which he protested against the Indian government's inaction to stop attacks on Manipur's Christian minority. Catholic schools in particular have been the target of a Hindu campaign of intimidation.

Father Francis was in Sagar for the monthly clergy meeting. His absence was noticed in the morning and his body discovered in the afternoon. Francis has expressed his wish to be cremated.

With such chaotic circumstances going on in India at this time, and the unspeakable, horrific persecution of Christians being cruelly and heinously perpetrated by Hindus and other religious and ethnic groups there, it could very well have been MURDER. Let us, in charity, pray earnestly and fervently for his family and for all those among the Faithful who are impacted by this tragic occurrence. It is ours to uphold and remain spiritually close to our brethren in India during this very difficult time. May the Angels of mercy take flight to help our Indian brethren, and may the Arm of the Lord be their shield and buckler.

NONSENSE ! A PRIEST SHOULD CERTAINLY NEVER HANG HIMSELF, THIS THE EGOIST WAY TO AVOID THE CROSS. SELFMURDERERS MAY NOT BE BURIED IN CHURCH

Let's not assume media reports are correct. Lynching is more common in India than one realizes.
