Canonical Process Absolves Imprisoned Priest

The day before Corpus Christi, the Archdiocese of Toledo, Spain, published a statement about Rev. José Luis Galán, who was sentenced in 2021 to eight (!) years in prison for "abusing a teenage girl" whose own mother testified against her daughter.

The statement said that the case had been brought before the Tribunal of the Rota of the Apostolic Nunciature in Spain.

On 2 November 2021, at the end of the investigation, the Tribunal found insufficient evidence and acquitted Rev. Galán of the charges. The verdict was confirmed by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

One wonders why it took so long for the Archdiocese to publish this verdict.
