FSSPX: Former Superior Receives Prison Sentence

A court in Gap, France, has sentenced Father Arnaud Rostand, 58, to a "fixed term of imprisonment of twelve months with deferred incarceration".

In April, he pleaded guilty to fondling seven male minors in France, Spain and Switzerland between 2002 and 2018.

Under French law, a defendant can be given a modified sentence if the sentence does not exceed one year. In this case, the convicted person will not go to prison but will be able to serve the sentence in another form: electronic bracelet, semi-liberty or work release.

Rostand will also have to undergo four years of socio-legal supervision and psychiatric treatment and pay compensation to his victims.

He is the former Superior of the District of Canada (2006-2008) and of the United States (2008-2014).

The FSSPX wrote in a press release that in 2014, "after ambiguous and inappropriate attitudes" were brought to their attention, Rostand's superiors removed him from the apostolate and "entrusted him with administrative tasks without any responsibility and under appropriate disciplinary supervision, first in Switzerland and then in Canada from 2019".

Rostand's own public information shows that between 2014 and April 2019 he worked as the communications director at the SSPX headquarters in Switzerland. He coordinated cooperation between the FSSPX's various institutions and oversaw public relations. From 2019 to 2022, he was Secretary for Canada.

Fr. Rostand needs to be defrocked. And Bishop Fellay should also be held accountable. There is a long list of corrupt priests that both Fellay and Williamson has protected, defended, and shifted about. They are as guilty as the predators. They DO NOT care about the victims; they DO NOT care about the families hurt. I speak from personal experience as a parent. Certain elements of the SSPX hierarchy (not all) have formed a "masonic" brotherhood mindset; they will protect their own no matter the crime or the cost. And if the victims make a fuss, they are character assassinated or bullied out of their parish in the hope they will disappear or join the resistance where all the more militant and vocal faithful (and priests) have been corralled.

I know. We are praying to Our Blessed Mother to expose and dispose of all such clergy within the SSPX. As I mentioned else where, we love the SSPX and we have great admiration for many of the SSPX priests. And immense gratitude. But this practice of the top boys protecting abusers and shifting them around to unsuspecting faithful is, not only unacceptable, but sick. Ireland in particular has been sent a number of them. It may be because we don't have any traditional schools - and the superiors think it a "safer place" - but we in Ireland tend to be a trusting race when it comes to clergy and we do hold annual summer camps and serving guild camps and priests over for dinner... I go cold inside when I think of all the families that were exposed to these abusers in some shape or form over the years.
